The first specimen was lot 22252 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $223. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 1 Sen, Year 32 (1899). PCGS MS-64 RD Secure Holder. Flashy red luster." This type was struck 1898-1909 and is common in circulated condition. This weight standard was used until 1915.
Recorded mintage: 9,764,028.
Specification: 7.13 g, bronze, 27.9 mm diameter.
