Jamaica 1986 cent
This specimen was lot 73538 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAMAICA. Cent, 1986. PCGS SPECIMEN-66 Gold Shield. FAO issue. Dodecagonal shaped. Tied with just two other specimens for the ultimate spot in the PCGS census, this steely gray Gem seemingly verges upon perfection. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." Altho Jamaica received her own coinage starting in 1869, she did not obtain her independence until 1962. Decimal coinage commenced in 1969. This type was struck in London and the Franklin mint 1975-2002. The reverse features the ackee fruit (Blighia sapida), the national fruit of Jamaica.
