Altho Jamaica received her own coinage starting in 1869, she did not obtain her independence until 1962. Decimal coinage commenced in 1969. This type was struck in London and the Franklin mint 1981 and 1984-88. The reverse features figs and exhorts users to produce more food.
Recorded mintage: 2,530,000 (including KM 48).
Specification: 11.31 g, copper-nickel, 28.5 mm diameter (same module as the old British florin).
