Altho Jamaica received her own coinage starting in 1869, she did not obtain her independence until 1962. Decimal coinage commenced in 1969. This type was struck in London and the Franklin mint 1975-2002. The reverse features the ackee fruit (Blighia sapida), the national fruit of Jamaica.
