Sincona sale 39, lot 3702

This specimen was lot 3702 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$192 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALY | Königreich, Vittorio Emanuele III. 1900-1946 50 Centesimi 1924 R. Roma Mit Riffelrand. Sehr schön. (Kingdom of Italy, Victor Emanuel III, 1900-46, fifty centesimi of 1924, Rome mint. Reeded edge, Very fine.)"

The fifty centesimi was originally a silver coin struck to the standard of a French half franc but none were struck in silver after 1900. This type of 1919-28 was the first in several decades. It comes in reeded and plain edge varieties.

Recorded mintage: 599,000, a rare date.
