This specimen was lot 352 in Nomisma Aste e-live-auction 3 (Verona, Italy, May 2023), where it sold for 60 euro (about US$78 including buyer's fees). The lot description noted, "Savoy Vittorio Emanuele III (1900-1946) 50 Centesimi "Leoni" 1921 bordo liscio - FDC. (kingdom of Italy, Victor Emanuel III, 1900-46, fifty centesimi of 1921, plain edge, uncirculated.)" This type was struck for the kingdom of Italy 1919-35. Vittorio Emanuele III succeeded his father Umberto upon the latter's assassination in 1900, but by 1923 he had yielded to the Fascists. The plain edge issues of 1919-21 and 1924-28 are readily available but the reeded edge variety of 1919-25 and 1929-35 is rare, being struck for presentation only.
