This specimen was lot 2572 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 28,000 CHF (about US$33,558 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY | Königreich, Umberto I. 1878-1900. 100 Lire 1880 R, Roma. Of the highest rarity. Only 145 pieces struck. About extremely fine. Minor edge flaw." This rare type is listed for five dates during 1880-91. It was struck to the standard of a French hundred francs d'or.
