This specimen was lot 1133 in Jean Elsen sale 122 (Brussels, September 2014), where it sold for €180 (about US$276 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIE, Royaume, Umberto Ier (1878-1900), AV 20 lire, 1881 R, Rome. presque Fleur de Coin. (kingdom of Italy, Umberto I (1878-1900), gold twenty lire of 1881, Rome mint, about uncirculated.)"
This specimen is one of a series struck 1880-97 at the Rome mint during the reign of Umberto of Italy. It is struck to the same standard as the contemporary French twenty francs. It is a common date.
