This type was struck 1981-85 (JE 5741-5745) at Jerusalem and various foreign mints. Of the 1984, 30,000,000 were struck at Winnipeg and the remainder at Jerusalem. It was accompanied by several commemorative sheqels (KM 135, 141, 144). Inflation having destroyed its value, the coinage was reformed again with one new sheqel = 1,000 old sheqalim.
Recorded mintage: 32,205,000 plus 13,403 for collector sets.
Specification: 5 g, copper-nickel, 22.8 mm diameter, segmented reeded edge, designed by Zvi Narkiss.
