This specimen was lot 1942 in Goldberg sale 115 (Los Angeles, February 2020), where it sold for $810. The catalog description[1] noted, "Israel. 10 New Sheqalim, 2002. Tower of Babel. Choice Brilliant Proof." This commemorative is a product of the Ottawa mint. Similar ten sheqalim were struck 2001-2014. Prior to 2001, the denomination was 17.28 g, 0.900 fine gold. Massive influx of aid from the United States fueled inflation and coinage reforms in 1960, 1980 and 1985.
Recorded mintage: 750 proofs.
Specification: 16.96 g, 0.917 fine gold, 30 mm diameter, 0.500 troy oz AGW.
