Künker Auction 425, lot 1122

The Isle of Man lies in the Irish Sea between Britain and Ireland and remains a British dependency. It is famous for motorcycle racing and tailless cats. Token coppers were issued for the island in the eighteenth century but large production did not commence until 1971. About 1980, the island fell under the domination of the Pobjoy Mint, which has minted and marketed dozens of NCLT commemoratives. This specimen was lot 1122 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$2,124 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"EUROPÄISCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · GROSSBRITANNIEN / IRLAND, ISLE OF MAN Elizabeth II, 1952-2022. 2 Pounds 1977. 14,60 g Feingold. GOLD. Polierte Platte, min. berührt. Aus der Familiensammlung Mohr. (Isle of Man, Elizabeth II, 1952-2022, two pounds of 1977. Proof, minor hairlines.)"

This bullion coin was struck with various mint letters and privy marks 1973-82.

Recorded mintage: 1,250 proofs plus more with mintmarks "A" and "B".

Specification: 15.92 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.469 troy oz AGW.
