I of Man 1977 half penny rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen was issued by the Isle of Man as part of the F.A.O. series. The Isle of Man lies in the Irish Sea between Britain and Ireland and remains a British dependency. It is famous for motorcycle racing and tailless cats. Token coppers were issued for the island in the eighteenth century but large production did not commence until 1971. About 1980, the island fell under the domination of the Pobjoy Mint, which has minted and marketed dozens of NCLT commemoratives. This coin, featuring an Atlantic herring, was issued by the Royal Mint prior to that time.

Recorded mintage: 700,000.

Specification: bronze, 17.1 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 40.
