This specimen was lot 72009 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRELAND. 1/2 Penny, 1985. Dublin Mint. PCGS MS-66 Red Gold Shield. Most of this type were melted down before circulating, making this a SCARCE issue. A flashy and near-flawless coin with blazing mint red surfaces." This type was struck 1971, 1975-82, 1985-86 as part of the decimal reform. The final two dates are scarce.
