This specimen was lot 24549 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Proof Florin 1951, Proof 65 PCGS, lightly toned with mirror surfaces, very scarce date in Proof." The first Irish florins (= two shillings), issued 1928-37, featured the obverse legend "SAORSTAT EIREANN"; the second (KM 15), issued 1939-43, merely stated "EIRE." The subsequent and final type (KM 15a), issued 1951-69, was copper-nickel. The reverse depicts a salmon, a fish common in Irish rivers.
Recorded mintage: 1,000,000 plus a few proofs.
