This specimen was lot 1421 in Stephen Album sale 41 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2021), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAQ: Republic, AR dinar, 1972/AH1392, 25th Anniversary of the Central Bank, with original box of issue, PCGS graded Proof 67." The date palm obverse appears on many coins of the 1967-1990 period. Iraq, long a part of the Ottoman Empire, was seized by the British at the end of World War One but then granted independence under a local monarchy which ruled until 1958. In 1972, Iraq was dominated by a military regime but Saddam Hussein had not yet taken over.
