This type was struck 1969-81. All dates are common. The date palm obverse appears on five, ten, twenty-five, fifty and hundred fils coins of the 1967-1990 period. Iraq, long a part of the Ottoman Empire, was seized by the British at the end of World War One but then granted independence under a local monarchy which ruled until 1958. In 1970, Iraq was dominated by a military regime but Saddam Hussein had not yet taken over.
