Jean Elsen sale 148, lot 1227

This specimen was lot 1227 in Jean Elsen sale 148 (Brussels, September 2021), where it sold for €300 (about US$425 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN, Islamic Republic (AD 1979- /SH 1358- ) AV azadi, SH 1366 (1987). In plastic holder. Extremely Fine - Uncirculated." This type was struck SH 1364-70 for the ayatollahs. Gold quarter, half, 2½ and five azadis also exist. The coins generally trade as bullion coins.
