India 1925(b) 1/4 anna
This specimen was lot 2644 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $90. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: George V, 1910-1936, AE 1/4 anna, 1925(b), an amazing quality example for type! NGC graded MS67 RD. Tied for finest known at NGC. (Top Pop)." This quarter anna was struck at the Bombay mint after World War One. The type was struck at Calcutta 1912-20, 1924-36 and is common in all grades but still makes a handsome coin in nice condition. This is a common date. The Bombay mint struck this type but only in 1924-28, 1930 and 1936. A quarter anna was one sixty-fourth of a rupee.
Recorded mintage: 14,588,000 plus proofs plus 14,598,000 from Calcutta.
