Stack's Bowers 2024 NYINC sale, lot 57205

This specimen was lot 57205 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $336. The catalog description^[1] noted, "INDIA. 2 Annas, 1919-(C). Calcutta Mint. George V. NGC MS-64." The two annas, originally a silver coin (KM 515), was switched to copper-nickel in 1918 and struck to this design until 1936. Similar two annas were struck for George VI until 1947. The administration also attempted to circulate copper-nickel four and eight annas but failed. The Bombay mint also minted this type.

Recorded mintage: 89,040,000 plus restrikes.

Specification: 5.62 g, copper-nickel, 25 mm diameter.
