This specimen was lot 2709 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it sold for $71.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: Victoria, Empress, 1876-1901, AE ½ pice, 1898(c), NGC graded MS63 RB." This type was struck 1877-78 and 1885-1901 in moderate quantities and was worth one-eighth of an anna. Calcutta was the sole producer. The weight was reduced in 1906 and the alloy converted to bronze.

Recorded mintage: 12,940,000.

Specification: 3.0-3.3 g, copper, 21 mm diameter.
