This specimen was lot 2716 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it sold for $89.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: Victoria, Empress, 1876-1901, AR ¼ rupee, 1898-C, incuse C mintmark, attractive light peripheral tone, Choice About Unc." The mintmarks (or lack of them) varied from year to year; for 1898, Calcutta used an incuse mintmark.
Recorded mintage: 1,330,000.
Specification: 2.92 g, 0.917 fine silver, .171 troy oz ASW.
