This specimen was lot 72644 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $40. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 10 Rupees, ND (1969). Bombay Mint. NGC MS-62. Struck to commemorate the centennial of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, this untoned example radiates with tremendous glistening brilliance." A very similar design was used for the rupee (KM 59) in 1969.
Recorded mintage: 3,160,000 plus 9,147 proofs plus 100,000 from Calcutta.
Specification: 15 g, 0.800 fine silver, 33 mm diameter, reeded edge.
