This specimen is the first coin issued by India as part of the F.A.O. series and the second Indian coin of that denomination. The Indian government became an enthusiastic supporter of the F.A.O. program and issued many F.A.O. coins in the decade following. This specimen is from the Bombay mint; the type was also issued from the Calcutta mint and again in 1971.

Recorded mintage: 300,000 plus 3,000 proofs.

Specification: 15 g, 0.800 fine silver, .385 troy ASW.
