India (1969)-B 50 paise
This specimen was lot 74194 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 50 Paise, ND (1969)-B. Bombay Mint. PCGS PROOF-66. Struck to commemorate the centennial of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi. Free from scratches with dazzling reflective surfaces." This type was struck 1969-70 without change at Bombay and Calcutta. The proofs were struck only at Bombay and bore the "B" mintmark. Another rupee, KM 58.3, with a pedestal obverse/value reverse, was also struck in 1969. The Mahatma was also featured on a silver ten rupees (KM 185).
Recorded mintage: 10,260,000 plus 9,147 proofs plus 12,100,000 from Calcutta.
