Sincona sale 77, lot 2530

This specimen was lot 2530 in Sincona sale 77 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 2,300 CHF (about US$2,792 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA | Princely States | Hyderabad, Mir Usman Ali Khan, 1329-1367 H. (1911-1948). Ashrafi 1343 H.Year 14, Haidarabad. NGC MS64." The type was struck AH1337-AH1367. The Indian princely state of Hyderabad was one of the few large enough and wealthy enough to mint an extensive series of gold coins. This type, struck for Mir Usman Ali Khan (AH 1329-1367 or 1911-48 A.D.), is listed for AH 1337-1367 and ought to be common but is not. It was accompanied by 1/8, 1/4 and half ashrafi.
