This specimen was lot 2956 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $40. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY: Republic, 50 filler, 1948-BP, NGC graded MS65." This was one of the last issues of the second Republic of Hungary before it was converted into the People's Republic in August 1949. Elections after Hungary's surrender in 1945 showed a landslide victory for the Independent Smallholder's Party but by subversion, intimidation and fraud, the communists were able to obtain the levers of power.
Recorded mintage: 15,000,000 plus 2,000 proofs.
