Sincona sale 101, lot 3423

This specimen was lot 3423 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$3,015 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. 20 Kronen 1910 KB, Kremnitz. Seltener Jahrgang. Vorzüglich. Kleine Kratzer und Randfehler. (empire of Austria-Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, twenty coronas of 1910, Kremnitz mint. Rare date, Extremely Fine, Small scratches and edge nicks.)"

This gold coin is among the last issued before Austria's suicidal plunge into World War One. The portrait is of Francis Joseph, emperor of Austria 1848-1916. The Austro-Hungarian empire did not long survive him. Regular twenty coronas were emitted at Kremnitz and Vienna 1892-1915.
