This specimen was lot 71195 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. 20 Filler, 1906-KB. Franz Josef I. NGC EF-40. KEY DATE to the series. The moderately worn and wholesome looking survivor exhibits even wear displaying lovely patina amongst the devices adding to its pleasing appearance and originality." This type was issued in 1906-08 and 1914 from the Kremnitz (Komoczbanya in Magyar) mint during the reign of Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria-Hungary. After the reorganization of the Hapsburg empire into the Dual Monarchy in 1867, Hungary received her own coinage separate from Austrian issues. In the aftermath of World War One, the Hapsburg monarchy collapsed and Hungary became independent but without its former territories in Slovakia, Transylvania and Croatia.
