Künker sale 386, lot 6010

This specimen was lot 6010 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €320 (about US$414 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"KAISERREICH ÖSTERREICH, Franz Josef I. 1848-1916. 10 Franken (4 Forint) 1876, KB, Kremnitz. Feingold. GOLD. Sehr schön. (empire of Austria-Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, ten francs or four florins of 1876, Kremnitz mint. Very fine.)"

This type was issued for Hungary 1870-79 from the Kremnitz (Komoczbanya in Magyar) mint during the reign of Emperor Francis Joseph. The denomination was struck 1870-92 to match the standard of the French ten francs d'or. Most dates are common. After the reorganization of the Hapsburg empire into the Dual Monarchy in 1867, Hungary received her own coinage separate from Austrian issues. In the aftermath of World War One, the Hapsburg monarchy collapsed and Hungary became independent but without its former territories in Slovakia, Transylvania and Croatia.

Recorded mintage: 24,284, a common date.

Specification: 3.22 g, 0.900 fine gold, this specimen 2,90 g
