Sincona sale 69, lot 1112

This specimen was lot 1112 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 375 CHF (about US$498 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"OSTERREICH, Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. 8 Forint-20 Francs 1876 KB, Kremnitz. Vorzüglich. (empire of Austria-Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, eight forint/twenty francs of 1876, Kremnitz mint. Extremely fine.)"

This type was issued for Hungary 1870-80 from the Kremnitz (Komoczbanya in Magyar) mint during the reign of Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria-Hungary. The denomination was struck 1870-92 to match the standard of the French twenty francs d'or. Most dates are common. There was a slight revision of the emperor's bust in 1880 and both types were struck that year. After the reorganization of the Hapsburg empire into the Dual Monarchy in 1867, Hungary received her own coinage separate from Austrian issues. In the aftermath of World War One, the Hapsburg monarchy collapsed and Hungary became independent but without its former territories in Slovakia, Transylvania and Croatia.

Recorded mintage: 303,920.

Specification: 6.45 g, 0.900 fine gold, this specimen 6.43 g, 21 mm diameter.
