Hungary 1647-KB thaler Dav-3198
This specimen was lot 33947 in Heritage sale 3098 (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $3,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hungary: Ferdinand III Taler 1647-KB MS64 PCGS, Kremnitz mint. Razor sharp and alluringly frosted over soaring designs, with particularly fine detail expressed in Ferdinand's hair and dress. Full argent brilliance emanates from multi-faceted fields." This type was struck without change 1637-61, rendering it one of the more common thalers of the period. The SCWC correctly catalogs this under Hungary, not Austria. Hungary in the 1650's was partitioned between the Austrians and the Turks and was not part of the Empire.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
