Hungary 1648-KB thaler Dav-3198
This specimen was lot 3112 in Künker Auction 426 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €390 (about US$552 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand III., 1625-1637-1657. Reichstaler 1648 KB, Kremnitz. Kl. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, sehr schön +. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand III, 1637-57, thaler of 1648, Kremnitz mint. Minor edge defect, very fine or better.)"
This type was struck 1637-61 and is surprisingly expensive considering the many years of production. Hungary in 1648 was partitioned between Austria, Turkey and Transylvania and was not part of the Empire.
Recorded mintage: 140,000.
Specification: silver; this specimen is 28,23 g.
