Künker Auction 439, lot 2220

This specimen was lot 2220 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,789 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"UNGARN, Matthias Corvinus, 1458-1490. Goldgulden o. J. (ab 1470), Nagybánya. Städtische Verwaltung. GOLD. Leicht gewellt, etwas Belag, sehr schön. Exemplar der Sammlung Münzen und Medaillen aus adeligem Privatbesitz. (kingdom of Hungary, Matthias Corvinus, 1458-90, undated goldgulden, circa 1470, Nagybánya mint under municipal administration. Slightly bent, some stains, very fine.)"

The ducats or florins or goldgulden of Hungary are among the more common gold coins of the late middle ages. This type was struck with multiple mintmarks and assayers' arms. We show here another goldgulden struck at Nagybánya with an arms obverse instead of the Madonna and Child shown here.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3,52 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-22; Pohl K 12-1.
