Hungary (1470)-N goldgulden Fr-20
This specimen was lot 3360 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €700 (about US$904 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Matthias Corvinus, 1458-1490. Goldgulden o. J. (1470), Nagybánya. Städtische Prägung. GOLD. R Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of Hungary, Matthias Corvinus, 1458-90, undated gold gulden of the Nagybánya mint. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
Hungary was a major producer of gold coins in the late middle ages, perhaps because of her control of mines in Transylvania, and this type is fairly common. We don't know how the cataloguer narrowed this undated issue to 1470 but we'll take his word for it.
Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.51 g.
