Künker sale 264, lot 3359

This specimen was lot 3359 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €500 (about US$646 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Sigismund, 1387-1437. Goldgulden o. J. (1431/1434/1437), Kremnitz. Kammergraf Johannes Siebenlinder (Septemtiliis). GOLD. Sehr schön. (kingdom of Hungary, Sigismund I, 1387-1437, undated gold gulden of the Kremnitz mint. Mintmaster John Siebenlinder. Very fine.)"

Hungary was a major producer of gold coins in the late middle ages, perhaps because of her control of mines in Transylvania, and this type is fairly common.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.47 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-10; Pohl D 2-34.
