Hong Kong 1938 5 cents

from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72597

This specimen was lot 72597 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "HONG KONG. 5 Cents, 1938. London Mint. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. A mostly argent example exhibiting some alluring brilliance and luster radiating throughout." This type was struck 1938-39 and replaced a copper-nickel coin of 1935-36.

Recorded mintage: 3,000,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 2.6 g, nickel, 16.5 mm diameter.
