This specimen was lot 72596 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONG KONG. 10 Cents, 1938. London Mint. PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. An enticing near Gem, this dazzling piece offers mostly steel gray surfaces, with some golden-amber hues near the peripheries and a high degree of luster." This type was struck 1938-39 and replaced a copper-nickel coin of 1935-36.
Recorded mintage: 7,500,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 4.5 g, nickel, 20.5 mm diameter.
