This specimen was lot 24305 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Holland. Gulden, 1790. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. Mostly argent and shimmering, this choice piece also features some alluring amber toning speckled throughout." This type was issued by the province of Holland 1694-1703, 1713-16, 1721, 1734-38, 1748-49, 1762-65, 1790-94 and was tariffed at twenty stuivers. Other provinces also issued this type. Despite the long run of issue and the substantial mintage, it is not often seen at American coin shows.
