Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale, lot 75023

This specimen was lot 75023 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Holland. Ducat, 1781. PCGS MS-61. Displaying much attractiveness, this handsome example renders a sunny golden hue and much attractivity on account of some light frosting throughout." Holland, along with several other Dutch provinces, issued gold ducats from the sixteenth century until the termination of the United Provinces by Napoleon in the 1790's. Double ducats also exist. This subtype was struck 1749-84, 1790-92.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common for a ducat.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold.
