This specimen was lot 448 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS (United), Holland, "rider" ducatoon, 1692. Nice XF details with minimal corrosion except near edge, lightly toned all over, scarce type (R.1 in Delmonte). Pedigreed to the Steve Valentine Collection, with original certificate from the salvor/conservator. Recovered from De Visch, sunk in 1740 off South Africa." The regular ducaton was first struck in Holland in 1659. It was struck intermittently until 1694 and then more steadily after 1716. Gold ducatons, weighing ten ducats, are noted in the SCWC for 1672-73, 1680-81 and 1687.
