This specimen was lot 965 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $920. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. HOLLAND. 2 Gulden, 1681. Crowned Arms of United Provinces divide value. Rv. Batavia stands with Free Hat on pole, Bible on pedestal. Sharp strike shows bold relief. AU-53 (NGC)." This type, a rare denomination, was struck 1681-2 and 1687.
