This specimen was lot 485 in Schulman auction 379 (Amsterdam, June 2024), where it sold for €340 (about US$437 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLLAND Provincie 1581 - 1795. Leeuwendaalder. 1650, Silver Type III. Ridder achter provinciewapen naar rechts MO. ARG. PRO˙ CON - FOE. BELG. HOL ❀. Kz. klimmende leeuw, jaartal in omschrift. Some original luster, extremely fine.)"

The leeuwendaalder and its half are famous in the numismatic world as being some of the worst struck coins in history. Most of the provinces and several of the cities struck them from the 1570's until the end of the seventeenth century. This denomination was struck with this mintmark 1606-17, 1621-68, 1674-76, 1679-87 and 1697.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.68 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 26.87 g.
