Sincona sale 97, part of lot 1317
Hohenlohe in 1648, from Droysen's atlas

This specimen was part of lot 1317 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), which sold for 50 CHF (about US$73 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Hohenlohe-Waldenburg, Grafschaft, Ludwig Gottfried, 1685-1728. 6 Pfennig 1717, Augsburg. Auf die 200-Jahrfeier der Reformation. Lot von 2 Stück. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (2) (Germany, county of Hohenlohe-Waldenburg, Louis Gottfried, 1685-1728, six pfennig of 1717, Augsburg mint, for the bicentennial of the Reformation. Lot of two pieces, Very Fine-Extremely Fine.)"

The county of Hohenlohe, small to begin with, further fragmented in the seventeenth century to form Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Neuenstein and Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Öhringen. During the Napoleonic mediatization, the county was partitioned between Bavaria and Wurttemberg. This obscure issue appears to be unlisted in the SCWC and Numista.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: billon.

Catalog reference: KM unlisted, Albrecht 233. Brozatus 887.
