This specimen was lot 1315 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$2,176 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst, Grafschaft, Ludwig Gustav, 1656-1697. Taler 1696, Nürnberg. Münzmeister Georg Friedrich Nürnberger. Walzenprägung. Gutes sehr schön. Minimal justiert. Exemplar der Auktion Künker 134, Osnabrück, Januar 2008, Los 461. (Germany, county of Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst, Louis Gustav, 1656-97, thaler of 1696, Nuremberg mint. Rotated reverse, Good Very Fine, Minimal adjustment marks.)"
The county of Hohenlohe, small to begin with, further fragmented in the seventeenth century to form Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Neuenstein and Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Öhringen. Other thalers from this state include Dav-6836 of 1684 and Dav-6838 of 1700. During the Napoleonic mediatization, the county was partitioned between Bavaria and Wurttemberg.
