Künker Auction 425, lot 2204

This specimen was lot 2204 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,965 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · HILDESHEIM, STADT Reichstaler 1626, mit Titel Ferdinands II. Buck/Bahrf. 220 g; Dav-5420. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Hübsche Patina, fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, city of Hildesheim, thaler of 1626, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Very scarce in this quality, handsome patina, about uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1624-28 and 1631 by the city and is very scarce. Ferdinand of Bavaria (bishop administrator 1612-50) was also provost of Bertesgaden, archbishop of Cologne, bishop of Liège, bishop of Münster, bishop of Paderborn and abbot of Malmedy even tho he was never ordained as a priest.
