This specimen was lot 2227 in Sincona sale 33 (Zürich, October 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Hessen-Darmstadt, Landgrafschaft, Ludwig VIII. 1739-1768 Dukat 1761. Darmstadt. Vorzüglich. Henkelspur. (Germany, landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt, Louis VIII, 1739-68, ducat of 1761, Darmstadt mint. Extremely fine, Traces of mounting.)"
The SCWC lists this type for 1760-61 and prices it higher than the ducats from neighboring Hesse-Cassel. This is the last ducat from this state.
