Hesse-Darmstadt 1710-BIB thaler Dav-2313
This specimen was lot 4264 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,852 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HESSEN-DARMSTADT, LANDGRAFSCHAFT, SEIT 1806 GROSSHERZOGTUM Ernst Ludwig, 1678-1739. Reichstaler 1710, Darmstadt. Von großer Seltenheit. Feine Patina, sehr schön. (landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt, Ernest Louis, 1678-1739, thaler of 1710, Darmstadt mint. Extremely fine, fine patina, very fine.)"
The landgrave issued another thaler in 1717 which the SCWC calls KM 120 but Davenport marks as Dav-2316. Are they alike or different? We cannot settle this as neither work has a photo of the extremely rare 1717 thaler. We can show KM 131/Dav-2317 of 1717, which has a different reverse.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 29.03 g, silver, this specimen 28,75 g.
