Hannover 1859-B 1/6 thaler
The first specimen was lot 1172 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $117.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "HANNOVER: Georg V, 1851-1866, AR 1/6 taler, 1859-B, scarce quality, NGC graded MS65." The second specimen was lot 2851 in Stephen Album sale 41 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2021), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[2] noted, "HANOVER: Georg V, 1851-1866, AR 1/6 thaler, 1859, a fantastic quality example! PCGS graded MS66." This type was struck 1859-63 and 1866. Hannover, originally part of the Brunswick-Luneburg domain, was made an electorate in 1698 and joined to Great Britain in 1714. Napoleon made it part of the kingdom of Westphalia but Metternich restored it as a kingdom at the Congress of Vienna. Hannover was separated from Great Britain in 1837, on the death of William IV, and annexed to Prussia in 1866.
