Hannover 1856-B 10 thaler
This specimen was lot 6078 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$ including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Georg V. 1851-1866. 10 Taler 1856, B. GOLD. Seltener Jahrgang. Winz. prägebedingte Randfehler, fast vorzüglich. (kingdom of Hannover, George V, 1851-66, ten thaler of 1856. Rare date, edge bumps, about extremely fine.)"
This very scarce type was struck 1853-56 and this is the scarcest of the four dates. The kingdom of Hannover was the old duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg prior to the Napoleonic invasions. It was separated from the British crown in 1837 and absorbed by Prussia in 1866.
