Hannover 1846-B 2-1/2 thaler Fr-1178
This specimen was lot 77251 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $1,050. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hannover. 2-1/2 Talers, 1846-B. Hannover Mint. Ernst August. PCGS AU-55. A more difficult denomination to encounter, this near-Mint specimen yields a high degree of luster paired with just a few breaks to the overall brilliance along with some scattered hairlines. SCARCE and exceptionally pleasing." This type was issued in small quantities 1845-48 along with a gold five (Fr-1176) and ten thaler (Fr-1175). The last 2½ thaler was struck in 1855. Hannover was annexed to Prussia in 1866, ending the coinage.
